Training Advices

"Wer will, daß ihm die anderen sagen, was sie wissen, der muß ihnen sagen, was er selbst weiß."
Niccolo Machiavelli
  • Stay calm. Endurance requires a meaningful alternation of stress and recovery. Adequate recovery after a workout is just as important as the training itself.

The optimal pace of these two phases depends on several internal (training level, training goal, regenerative capacity, motivation, ...) and external (weather, training opportunities, ...) factors that have a major impact on the individual training plans.

  • Correct breathing. During training, breathing plays a critical role in continuously supplying the vital oxygen and simultaneously removing carbon dioxide. Usually it is not necessary to keep up a specia breathing technique, because the body is supposed to regulate these processes by itself.

Traditionally you should inhale through your nose and exhale through your mouth, while the exhalation phase may take a little longer to dispose of the used air and to free your lungs for a maximum amount fresh air.

  • Diversity wins. Now and then, passionate runners should switch to an alternative endurance sports to provide different training impacts.

Basically there are no limits. Useful, however, are sports such as cycling (as a joint relieving and yet intense workout for the legs), swimming (to improve muscular coordination and to add some upper body as training) or cross-country skiing (as an alternative for the winter season).

Ultimately, the different kinds of endurance sports never exclude from each other, as each training session always has a positive effect on its respective "competitors".
